thieves, christmas and why i hate working in retail

December 22nd, 2005 Posted 8:13 pm

this week has been… hectic. (i have no pound sign so please assume the “$” is a pound sign)

on tuesday some idiot kids stole a $79.99 mp3 player and we thanked all the gods it wasn’t the $179 ipod nano… then the next day some idiot child stole the live D600 from our live display… the alarm failed to work and thus we are now one D600 short… so we called the police and the thief is still at large…

today i had, for the millionth time, to explain to some idiot customer that in fact the only ipod nano we have is on display so technically, yes we do have them in stock and besides… it’s not like you can’t get better value for money by buying a f***ing creative zen 6gb thing… AAAARRRRGGGGHH!!!
it’s not that i care about my commission, i really don’t it’s just when they threaten to sue _me_ personally because our shop window says something i think “hey, it’s supposed to be christmas”

and another thing,

IT’S CALLED CHRISTMAS! NOT XMAS AND I SURE AS F*** AM NOT GONNA NOT WISH A HAPPY ONE TO SOMEONE JUST BECAUSE THEY LOOK NON-CHRISTIAN.
christian or not most people at least acknowledge the fact that it exists and if you’re gonna be pathetic about it then just move away to a non-christian country that doesn’t have a predominantly christian way of life and a predominantly christian government.
we have religious festivals for a reason, and we like to celebrate them. granted i don’t… but by and large i am willing to at least wish a good one to any passing creature.
like it or not, christmas is here and it’s gonna be here for three weeks every december and then it goes away and becomes just something else that you look forward to…
*shrugs* perhaps the other religions aren’t seeing the bigger picture and in attempting to boycott christmas will eventually realise that it will end up in them finally putting the straw on to the back of the already over-laden camel that is british patience… after all, it’s very rare these days that i have a customer who doesn’t wish me “merry christmas”, and when they do i smile back and say “yeah, you too!” it doesn’t matter for that small second whether or not either of us celebrate it, all we care about is that for that one second we connect, and we have a moment which will probably die out if christmas is gone.
that kind of moment is the thing that keeps me going through the last week before christmas, where every customer is stressed and whiny, where every product that they want is sold out and we have to try and convince them that they _really_ wanna spend out an extra $10-$20… and secretly i think it’s the thing that keeps them grounded while their whole world is in an uproar because the phone they’re buying might not be the right colour or it might have gooby rays or whatever… at the end of the day, christmas is a good thing, especially if you don’t work in retail.
so i for one don’t want to see it gone… after all, how unwieldy would it be to say “merry generic winter festival” or even to hand out “generic winter festival cards”… it just does not work

to all you non-christians who whinge and whine about christmas, please reconsider your whining… if we change christmas then it’ll not only sound stupid but we will lose the one thing that keeps hope alive…

…and that one thing is the glow in people’s eyes as they look at all the boxes beneath the christmas tree and spend hours trying to figure out what could be inside… i must admit, i’m guilty of that one

so “happy generic winter festival” or even “happy (insert winter festival here)”

have a good one,
yuletide blessings and merry christmas

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely sedulous devotee this year.

Last week, I bombed a cultist gathering (-100 points). In February, I defiled the grave of that traitor, Lovecraft (90 points). In June, I burnt my copy of the Necronomicon (-75 points). In April, I wore an Elder Sign (-10 points). In January, I made a burnt offering to the Dead Dreamer (100 points). In March, I visited my relatives in Innsmouth (100 points).

In short, I have been very good (105 points) and deserve to be promoted to High Priest.

Your humble and obedient servant,

Slipping with ease from my feet to my knees
I will please no one else but myself
You are the life force, the lover and saviour
I offer my soul as the prize

You cool lips corrupt with a kiss of desire
That will burn with the fire of delight
Take me and sate me, I love you, I hate you
A taste, then another, another, another
Destruction tastes sweeter each time that you meet her
She’s reckless and gives as she takes

I would have more, I would drink more, I would eat more,
I would take more, I would love more
I would live more, I would give more, I would use more
So much more, oh so very much more

Love me and leave me, destroy and deceive me
My destiny’s written in blood
Drink and consume, lead me far from this room
I’ll escape like a bird to the sky

Crush your intolerance, your stinking abhorrence
Of pleasures and laughter and life
The essence of life is to share our delights
Drink it down for there’s more still to come

a thought goes out to all those who live in hemel hempstead…

HASH(0x8b9b7b8)
Dragon-powerful,tough,misunderstood. no one really
gets you, some even fear you without getting to
know you. You strike out violently against
those who hurt or offend you, but can make the
loyalist and greatest friend to those who
bother to look past your tough exterior.
