And now my hands smell of peaches…

I finally got around to tackling the hallway today, knowing that it was going to severely annoy me otherwise. I’ve been on this “tidy until your brain works properly” thing and the hallway was the only thing that wasn’t being affected.

Well, not anymore. I picked up the coats and stuck them on the coat hooks and then promptly knocked over a bucket of sand. Not to be deterred by this I emptied the hoover and then broke it putting it back together again, turns out it’s a more logical creature than I expected and needs people to pay attention to how they took it apart. So I imposed upon the kindness of the painter who’s redecorating the flat that Yasmin used to live in to help me put the damned thing back together again.

The hoover still works. Better than before. So I thanked the man and at that stage the coat hooks decided to make a break for it. Reader, I tell you, those fucking coat hooks can suck it.

I calmed myself down from the rage induced coat hook murdering spree and remembered dimly something about things to make coat hooks work. So I calmly walked into the bedroom where these things were hiding from me. Like they saw my rage at the coat hooks and felt the sudden need to cower behind a pile of unsorted wedding gifts (what can I say, we don’t have tremendous amounts of storage and these things are bulky). Chastising them, I grabbed my screwdriver set which decided to argue amongst itself and in the course of me crossing the corridor fell apart no less than five times. Stupid modular screwdriver set.

So I fixed the coat hooks. On my own. And the sand has now gone. I think I need a butler.

As for my hands, well the groceries arrived and with them came a refill of my air freshener plug-in which is lavender and peach flavour. Anyway, it decided that I have very sexy hands and began to ooze all over them in a loving (I assume) way. I’ve washed my hands several times but they just smell like peaches and the laptop mouse is angry with me, it’s decided that it detests the smell of peaches and keeps just jumping around the screen for me.

So people around me may have noticed this, but I have like an EPIC issue with crying… as far as my worldview goes, there’s nothing more humiliating than crying in front of people… to this day I’m not entirely certain why but I have come to accept that crying happens and the best thing to do about it is let it happen.

Which doesn’t explain why I’m now experiencing random bouts of weepiness… I’m not actually crying because the reasons for the weepiness are dumb and it’s not really necessary. I mean, how many people do you know burst into tears because the cup of tea is now empty? Or because they’re in the mood for some hula hoops but the hula hoops are over there I mean, seriously?

Also, there’s the promising sign that no matter which doctor I go to I probably won’t get anything for it. I mean, I tried asking for counselling or some species of anti-depressant but the doctor was all “but you have insomnia, which we don’t medicate, and once that passes you’ll be a lot happier”…

I’m now waiting for this magical happiness that will come, especially seeing as my insomnia’s moved on temporarily.

Anyway, hopefully the prospect of a new job with slightly more pay will lift my spirits… it’s only two weeks away and I can’t wait… though that’s mostly because I’ve just found out that despite reassurances that I was important and valued, I’ve been the lowest paid long-term staff member for a while and even if it were calculated on performance I ought to have received some recognition for the fact that I was doing all the admin stuff on the days I was in… *sigh* it’s all in the past now and hopefully the new place will be better…

The 50% tax rate.

This is a thing that’ll never affect me, nor will it affect 99% of the population of the UK… however, the celebritards and businesspeople it affects are all up in arms because of the injustice.
All I say to this is good riddance. Frankly, most of the people at that wage point will be the people that got us into the financial mess that the tax rate is trying to fix so they get no sympathy. The rest are either footballers or Tracy Emin, who frankly I have no fondness for… I mean, footballers get paid too much anyway and everyone agrees on this point eventually. And Tracy Emin… well, let’s put it this way, she’s probably the one they invented the saying “big windows” for… after all, there’d need to be big windows in order to spot the idiot that thinks an unmade bed is fine art coming…
Sorry, is that needlessly harsh? My bad.
I’ll admit her art style isn’t my cup of tea, and I know nothing about the artist’s personal life… but every television interview that I’ve seen of her she comes across as a really unpleasant person. If she wishes to go to France to escape our 50% tax rate, go for it… it’s probably a greener grass syndrome causing her to think her life will be better, and even if it isn’t I’m sure that we won’t miss her anyway…
Now, can the newspapers please stop trying to make the people who aren’t affected by this new policy angry? I mean, seriously, there’s so many people beneath the poverty line who need the money more than that one percent of the population and the money’s going to help them out… and rich people, remember that you don’t take it with you when you die…

Fraud on my debit card

So I get a text message on Friday telling me that my card’s been used abroad and then I checked my statement (yay for online banking) and saw that someone else had used my card to top up their o2 phone on the 8th.
This irked me, especially seeing as it was a bank holiday weekend and I had no way of getting through to them at the time. So I put a note in my diary (and forgot to call them) and called them today. They asked me to confirm that I haven’t topped up any o2 phones which was easy, I am on pay monthly and a different network.
So in a move of extremely good customer service they’ve arranged everything and it’ll all be sorted out within 5 working days maximum as I need to sign a declaration to confirm it wasn’t me.
All in all, I’m fairly happy with them now and thought I’d let all of you know how good they’ve been.
Downside is that if i need to get money out I’ll have to walk all the way to the bank, but that’s OK because I could always do with the extra exercise. :P

Appalling behaviour from a sci-fi editor. *sigh* I guess we’re all human after all…

tl;dr a sci-fi editor made a racist comment, either wittingly or unwittingly it’s unknown, and the internet is up in arms. Personally, I’m not sure I’ve ever bought any books published by Tor so it doesn’t massively affect me, however it is a bit sad that such comments are still made even now.
